Tobacco Purge
Tobacco is one of the most revered and widely used master plants in the Amazon. Recognized as the father and protector of the plant world, tobacco holds a central role in shamanic healing practices. It is used by healers not only as medicine, but also as a spiritual ally—bringing strength, guidance, and protection to those who work with it.

Purpose of the Purge
The tobacco purge is a cleansing ceremony to help prepare us to work with Ayahuasca. Unlike Ayahuasca, this is not a psychedelic experience. Instead, it is a physical and energetic cleansing process that works on multiple levels:
· Physical: removing toxins, mucus, and stagnant energies through vomiting.
· Emotional & Mental: helping to let go of heavy emotions, destructive habits, and repetitive thought patterns.
· Energetic & Spiritual: clearing blockages, restoring alignment, and strengthening your protective energy field.

The Purge
Fresh tobacco leaves are prepared as a strong tea. The participant drinks this brew, followed by several liters of water to help flush the system. Within a short time, the purge (vomiting) begins and the process is over within 30 minutes. The intensity of the purge can vary, but its effects are consistently cleansing and restorative.

During the process, participants are guided and supported by the Curandero, who ensures safety and helps direct the energy of the purge with Icaros (medicine songs). Some people with heightened sensitivity may also experience subtle visions or a sense of direct communication with the spirit of tobacco. After the purge, participants may feel light headed and relaxed. After 2 hours participants can eat payaya or vegetable broth. In the evening dreams may be more vivid. A tobacco purge before an Ayahuasca ceremony allows a deeper and smoother connection with the medicine.
